Sears Holiday - Vintage Nightgowns

Another installment of vintage goodness from old Sears Christmas Catalogs. I just love the nightgowns from the 1930s and 1940s. They were like beautiful evening gowns! Enjoy these pages from the old catalogs.

Paris 1962

Photographer Tom Palumbo took these images in Paris in 1962. He was a fashion photographer during the 1950s and 1960s. I think these candid images are just enchanting. You can see the full stream on flikr here.

Retro Hair - the fifties

I noticed while browsing through some pictures of Scarlett Johansson on InStyle.com that she had so many pictures with her hair styled very retro 1950s. It is such a classy time period and the hair styles are nothing less than chic. Below is a great tuturiol on how to do 50s hair at home. Enjoy!

Vintage French Designer - Pierre d'Alby

When we first came across this Pierre d'Alby blazer, we weren't quite sure where it came from. We hadn't heard of the label before, but we loved the styling and knew we had to have it. After doing some research, we found the following information on Pierre d'Alby via the Vintage Fashion Guild website:
The label Pierre d’Alby was one of the first players in France to become part of the explosive 1960s scene. The label was created by Zyga Pianko in 1958 and a very young Daniel Hetcher was hired to design the first six collections. Other well known designers such as Agnès B, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Feycal Amor, and Nicole Fahri designed for the label. In the 1990s the company changed its name to Zyga, in honour of its creator.

This particular blazer is in a great navy color with gold contrast piping. Judging from the styling and label, it is from the late 1960s or early 1970s.

The style is classic and timeless, as you can see J.Crew is selling a very similar design in their Fall '10 collection.

These two vintage images were found online of Pierre d'Alby from the 1960s. This second image was a 1968 French Elle cover and the model is wearing a very mod Pierre dress.

A. Smile Gelati Overalls, The Holy Grail of 80's Vintage!

Here at Fashion Redemption we have happened upon a coveted pair of lavender A. Smile Gelati overalls.

Quoting the website "In the 80's":
When it was popular: 1981-1984
Description: Available in every color of the pastel rainbow, these candy-coated cotton overalls featured flimsy string ties at the top instead of the standard heavy-duty suspenders. The logo was an inverted triangle sewn onto the center back and sported an iced-cream cone with the words A. Smile on top and Gelati below. The only girls who could pull this look off were the snotty cheerleaders or drill-team members -- anyone over 120 pounds looked like a pastel dairy farmer. Pale pink was the most popular color at my high school.
A. Smile Gelati overalls are like the Holy Grail of vintage 80's clothes. They are so difficult to find and there aren't any images of them available online, we've searched and searched. We finally came across this lavender pair and we snatched them up.

Do you have a "Holy Grail" of vintage clothing that you are looking for?

If so, let us know, maybe we'll find it!

Inspiration: Crop Tops from TOPSHOP

We love the UK based brand Topshop. It's been a favorite store of ours for years and it finally made it's way to NYC about a year ago.

Their style is very fashion forward and always a step ahead. We loved this latest look from their Style Notes.

We have recreated a similar look with our "Cherry Pop Crop" now available in our Etsy store.
